Kato says:

I started my art at the age of 10 years, and used to play with colours, and mud to act as clay for modelling. There I was encouraged by my parents to take on the subject.

I got my inspiration for art through various artists in Uganda. The environment in our country favours art because materials can be easily got for free. I kept on practising a lot, especially in painting, crafts, and sculptures. This was made possible through my education in art.

After leaving college, I became empoyed as an art teacher, and I began teaching children of the age 5 to 13 years, which gave me a big challenge, and helped me improve in my crafts.

In 2001 I started working on my own as a freelance artist, mainly painting. Thereafter, I went back to teaching children from the age of 15 to 20 years. Now as I am teaching, I do freelance art.

I am inspired by the natural environment of our country, and the cultural music from the baganda. My choice of colour is inspired by my culture and the other cultures of Uganda.

The materials I use include: oil colours, canvas, banana fibres, textile, pastes, fabrics and natural dyes.
